Russell Street in Ward 4 has been the center of a lot of proposed development. Ergon, The Village, the changes make to LaGallaria Shopping Center to name a few. One of the proposed developments, The Village, went back to the drawing board for some revisions and is about to go before the Planning and Zoning Board. This development has the potential to change the very landscape around Russell Street and to add to the new urbanist concept that many of talked about for Starkville.

You spelled the name of the development wrong. It's supposed to be without the second 'e', as in Belfry. The link is also wrong for the same reason (I found it with Google).
I'm a bit worried about the development, seeing as how they can't even get the names correct on the two biggest landmarks of campus: their "Duty" Noble Field and "Wade Davis" stadium [sic]. (see the Location link on the web site).
From this I gain a bit of knowledge about the architects. Apparently they have spent zero time getting to know the area and their potential customer base. How can we expect the development to be MSU and Starkville-centric if they don't know basic facts like these? I get the impression that it is another developer out to make money with no regards for the city or University (and to make it clear, I don't have a problem with the making money part, that's a fact of life).
But, that's why we elect the great aldermen of Starkville: to look out for the needs of the community.
Good points. I changed the title/link in my post to the correct name. As far as the mistakes on their website, I don't know if that was the developer's fault or perhaps a third-party web designer; however, it needs to be changed. By itself I would think the development might stick out but in conjunction with all of the other proposals up and down Russell St. along with the one on University Dr. I think the image of the entire area is about to change. My hope is that it will be as much of a pleasant change as the "Cotton Crossing" has been to the old LaGallaria Shopping Center.
I'll continue to keep an eye on it, though.
Any way to post the plans for the proposed downtown municipal complex? I saw some in the background of a pic on the SDN website, but thought you might be able to get your hands on the real deal and scan them for all to see... Just a thought.
